City scenario
São Paulo nuclear blast radius
Last updated
São Paulo is a vast inland metro. A 15 kt airburst over the Sé core is downtown-scale. The rings do not map the whole municipality, let alone the surrounding cities.

Educational estimate only. Blast and heat rings use simplified yield scaling. They ignore terrain, weather, shielding, and weapon design. Casualty counts use WorldPop 2020 residents on an approximately 1 km grid and ignore time of day, commuting, shelter, and evacuation. This is not a targeting or civil-defense tool. About the model.
| Effect | Ground range | What the model means |
|---|---|---|
| Fireball | 266 m (872 ft) | Maximum luminous radius |
| 20 psi | 839 m (2,751 ft) | Heavy destruction |
| 5 psi | 1.8 km (1.1 mi) | Most buildings collapse |
| Thermal | 2.0 km (1.3 mi) | 3rd-degree burns |
| 1 psi | 4.2 km (2.6 mi) | Windows shatter |

What the rings cover
Inner rings sit on the Sé and neighbouring centro districts. 5 psi covers a slice of the old centre. 1 psi reaches into nearby zonas and still leaves most of the metro’s municipalities outside window-breakage.
The preset sits on the historic centre, a dense mix of civic buildings, commerce, and housing, rather than on Avenida Paulista’s office ridge or a peripheral reservoir.
Brazilian metros are horizontal. The same Little Boy yield that looks large inside Paris looks small on São Paulo’s map. That comparison is the reason this city is in the index.
Open the simulator to drag the burst onto Paulista or Guarulhos. This page stays on one pin so the WorldPop line has a stable URL.
