W76-1 blast radius (90 kt)
Last updated
W76-1 is the 90 kt ‘workhorse’ Trident yield on this globe. It is a step between Hiroshima-scale and the larger W88.

Educational estimate only. Blast and heat rings use simplified yield scaling. They ignore terrain, weather, shielding, and weapon design. Casualty counts use WorldPop 2020 residents on an approximately 1 km grid and ignore time of day, commuting, shelter, and evacuation. This is not a targeting or civil-defense tool. About the model.
| Effect | Ground range | What the model means |
|---|---|---|
| Fireball | 544 m (1,786 ft) | Maximum luminous radius |
| 20 psi | 1.5 km (4,999 ft) | Heavy destruction |
| 5 psi | 3.3 km (2.1 mi) | Most buildings collapse |
| Thermal | 4.2 km (2.6 mi) | 3rd-degree burns |
| 1 psi | 7.6 km (4.7 mi) | Windows shatter |
Cube-root scaling means 90 kt is not six times Little Boy’s radius. It is a bit under two times for blast, which still moves the 1 psi ring from neighbourhoods to a large slice of a compact capital.
This is a named US stockpile class from open literature, not a targeting manual. The simulator ignores missile range, accuracy, and defenses.
City pages stay on 15 kt by default so this yield remains a deliberate upgrade you choose.
